Current mood:Pretty random at this point
Current music:And Also With You--Homsar

Now THAT'S good randomness.
Talk about randomness--Homestar Runner quotes coming up in the playlist. Heh.

Anyhow, nothing much has been going on, short of work. Which is why I ain't been posting. Well, I guess I've been driving to the other side of the Denver area nigh-on daily because the *only* guy I play video games with regularly that HASN'T joined the military lives there, but that's a given.

Rented Gauntlet: Legends for the Dreamcast. It's a much truer port of the arcade version than the N64 version, and comes with cutscenes, more characters, and different ways of doing things. And cooler things to do. I like it better than the N64 version, but then, I like almost EVERYTHING that was on the N64 and some other system better on the other system. Rainbow 6. The N64 version had two-player mode (because that's what the N64 was for, multiplayer). But it had, like, six guns. AND NO SNIPER RIFLE. You could zoom in a little with your assault rifle, but when I need to take out a guy on the other side of a compound COVERTLY, sending a hail of bullets his way is NOT the way I'd do it.

I mean, I'm not covert much in the first place, but it *does* help occassionally.

I also rented Mechwarrior 2 for the PSX, which was decent, but not all that great. It had the *makings* of a great game, but the interface lacked finesse. That, and dodging was probably the hardest thing to do in the game, which meant I could take out ONE 'mech before I'd get scrapped, too. And that was just in the "blast crap randomly" mode. I didn't even try the story mode, but my brother did (and said about the same things I just did).

Maybe I've been spoiled by MechAssault on the XBOX as far as control goes, but I stick by my analysis.

Back on the Dreamcast, I rented Power Stone 2. I've played little beyond the multiplayer mayhem mode, but I'm impressed. It's martial arts mayhem crossed with high-tech tomfoolery in a 3-D version of Smash Bros. I'm serious. I mean, like, you can grab a giant squeaky hammer with a genie girl that sits on a flying carpet when she wins and beat the brains out of a Haohmaru clone (down to the opening saying). You can use environments to your advantage--there's gun turrets, coffins, pit traps, and all kinds of mayhem-inducing devices to play with.

I mean, you can be on an airship that gets shot down. Then, you try to grab umbrellas (sometimes by beating them out of your opponents) whilst free-falling so that you don't, y'know, slam into the ground at several thousand miles per hour. Or you can be in a tomb where the floor drops out and you have to run from the giant rock from Indiana Jones while laying bear traps for your opponents and riding a skateboard to get ahead.

There's also some business about combining and buying items and cards and things, which I have yet to really explore. So I'm off to do that.

Have a nice day!
